What Our Patients Think

About Eyes NY

A couple of years ago I had some blurry vision in one eye. I received an appointment within a couple of days. Dr Hammad and all of the staff were my definition of professional. Two years later my vision has improved and I’m back to my busy life. Thank you all for doing what you do so I could get back to doing what I do.

Dr Hammad has been my Eye Care Dr for 10 years. He is excellent with my eye care and has prolonged and progressed my eye sight issues due to my diabetes. I would highly recommend him!

The clinic is very modern, beautiful and clean. I was examined by Dr. Lee who was amazing, very polite and answered all my questions (which can be too much for some).

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the average age to get diagnosed with Glaucoma?

Although anyone can develop glaucoma, the risk of developing it increases if you are 40 or older. When glaucoma affects the eye, fluid starts to build up in the front part of the eye, causing blind spots in your vision.

In the early stages of glaucoma, there may be no noticeable signs. However, as the condition advances, symptoms may include a gradual loss of vision, blurred vision, halos around lights, and difficulty seeing in low light.

What are the first signs of having cataracts?

Cataract signs are slow to manifest and may be inconspicuous until they reach a more advanced stage. Regular eye checkups are important to identify silent symptoms and promptly start with the appropriate treatment.

Once cataracts start to develop, signs may include blurry or cloudy vision, light sensitivity, fading or yellowing of colors, poor night vision, and double vision.

What eye conditions and diseases does an Ophthalmologist treat?

An ophthalmologist treats a range of eye conditions, including dry eye, eye floaters, astigmatism, nearsightedness, farsightedness, and presbyopia.

Additionally, ophthalmologists also treat eye diseases, such as glaucoma, cataracts, macular degeneration, Graves’ disease, and diabetic retinopathy.

What is the difference between a routine eye exam and a medical eye exam?

Different types of eye exams target different needs. Our specialists will recommend the best option for your case during your consultation.

A routine eye exam is the most common type of evaluation. It focuses on identifying the state of your vision and measuring eyeglass or contact prescriptions. Additionally, it may include an overall eye health evaluation to check for any potential medical issues.

While similar to a routine eye exam, a medical eye exam identifies medical issues that can’t be corrected with eyeglasses. Whether it's an eye condition or a sign of other health issues, your doctor will help you evaluate and recommend treatment during your medical eye exam.

What are the symptoms of dry eye?

Symptoms of dry eye syndrome may affect one or both eyes and often include:

  • Burning or gritty feeling in the eyes
  • Mucus in the eyes
  • Sensitivity to light
  • Eye redness
  • Difficulty seeing at night
  • Watery, stinging eyes
  • Blurred vision

Can glaucoma be cured?

Glaucoma is a life-long condition that has no cure. However, there are multiple treatment options to help with symptoms caused by the intraocular pressure that damages the optic nerve.

This can be achieved with eye drops, medication, laser treatment, surgery, or a combination of these. Choosing the right procedure will depend on your specific needs and the extent of damage in your eyes.

How are refractive errors treated?

Refractive errors, such as astigmatism, presbyopia, nearsightedness, and farsightedness, affect the way light enters the retina and how the images are processed in our eyes. Treatment options can include prescription eyeglasses, contact lenses, and lens insertion surgery.

The right approach to your case of nearsightedness will depend on your individual needs and lifestyle. Talking to your eye specialists and performing regular eye exams will ensure you choose the best refractive treatment for your condition.
